This movie....
IS TERRIBLE.
There. That's the big spoiler.
Oh. And there is no actual ending. Lyra escapes the Gobbler facility in the north with her daemon intact when the 'gyptians, witches and the armored bear come to help. Though after they ride off in Lee Scoresby's little zeppelin style craft the movie ends with the "We're on our way to larger struggles" feeling.
Don't waste your time seeing this movie. I remember seeing it back when it first came out on DVD. The only thing I remember is not being able to follow and honestly not actually remembering anything about the story. It was way too hard to follow.
I finally re-watched it again and if I weren't currently reading the book I'd still be very lost. The story is very rushed and they cut a lot out from the book that provides back-story and explanation. It doesn't even end where the book does! The movie leaves out the actual end of the first book and I read that it was planned to be included in the next movie that I'm pretty sure at this point will never happen.
The best thing about this movie in my opinion is the bear. Who doesn't love a talking, grumpy, armored bear? Doesn't hurt that he was voiced by Ian McKellen either.
All in all this had a very unsatisfying "ending" and everything in between.
